Find your squad and achieve your collective goals for 2023

Metropolitan’s ‘We Start 2023 Stronger Together’ campaign encourages Mzansi to harness the power of the collective by setting shared goals with family members, friends, colleagues and/or community members to enjoy a stronger and better year together.
“One of the biggest hurdles to achieving great things is the trap of a non-supportive collective mindset. This year, we want people to change the way they look at their finance and lifestyle goals by finding their ‘squad’, setting common goals, holding each other accountable and offering support along the way. We know that change is hard, but research shows that overcoming it with your ‘squad’ has a far higher chance of success than doing it alone,” says Tlalane Ntuli, Chief Marketing Officer, Metropolitan.
The company is living this insight by kicking their 2023 campaign off in partnership with another South African heritage brand, All Gold. “Food and finance are on everyone’s minds at the start of the year and as key areas to improve on. In South Africa, some of life’s most important conversations happen over meals where people draw on the collective wisdom around the table and we wanted to harness that energy and potential together with All Gold,” says Ntuli.
The multi-media campaign includes a 4-episode TV show with a diverse line-up including host Celeste Ntuli, Chef Lentswe Bhengu, Life Coach Yvette Ratshikhopha as well as experts from Metropolitan, Sinazo Kalako and Rapule Mahlangu, who will educate viewers about life and money matters in a relatable way. “The show centres around ‘recipes for collective success’ and together with All Gold, we will bring everyday people and our experts together over delicious, healthy and budget-friendly meals where they will share experiences, questions and financial pain points to help South Africans overcome day-to-day challenges when it comes to their lives, health, careers and finances,” says Ntuli.
The campaign will unpack how being part of a squad or community can positively influence which goals are set and ultimately achieved. “’We’ is inherent in the goals people set, such as saving for a holiday with friends. It’s also critical when it comes to behaviour changes, such as healthier eating or taking advantage of economies of scale, such as bulk buying or the sharing of resources to minimise costs,” says Ntuli.
The campaign coaches will act as a mirror to show how being part of a supportive squad can positively influence successful outcomes. Ntuli emphasises that viewers should not expect industry jargon when it comes to financial tips and tools, as a key objective of the campaign is to make important financial and lifestyle information accessible to everyone.
“We recognise that South Africans may be anxious about a new year and what lies ahead, especially given the upheaval of the last few years. We hope our campaign will help reduce this anxiety and empower consumers to never give up on their financial goals. That’s why our message is ‘I can start strong, but we will always start stronger’," says Ntuli.
